Chief Mate, Senior DPO of OSV, Position Summary
The Chief Mate, Sr. DPO position is responsible to the Captain for the safety and security of the ship and is the officer in charge of watch of the vessel and vessel operations. The Chief Mate ensures safe navigation and protection of environment and acts as officer in charge of crew supervision and vessel maintenance. The Chief Mate oversees cargo loading, ballasting and maintaining the vessel stability and trim when on watch. The Chief Mate acts as a company representative for onboard communication with client and third parties. Chief Mate is responsible for the crew's welfare and training in areas such as safety, firefighting, search and rescue.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
• Performing damage assessment and control, understanding the procedures for rescuing persons from the sea, assisting ships in distress, and responding to any emergency which may arise in port.
• In charge of the firefighting and damage control teams. Act as scene leader and reports via radio to the Captain who is in command and coordinates the larger response from the bridge.
• Responsible for vessel's cargo operations, its stability, and supervising the deck crew. The mate is responsible for the safety and security of the ship, as well as the welfare of the crew on board.
• Oversee the loading, stowage, securing and unloading of cargo.
• Maintenance of the ship's hull, cargo gears, accommodations, life-saving appliances and firefighting appliances.
• Trains the crew on various aspects like safety, firefighting, search and rescue, and various other contingencies.
• Assume command of the whole ship in the absence or incapacitation of the Captain.

Education and/or Experience Required:
• U.S Citizen
• Minimum 5 years at-sea-experience in the marine industry as Chief Mate required.
• Active USCG license as Master of Motor Vessels of 6,000ITC, 6,000GRT or larger license, all certifications for STCW compliance, GMDSS, ARPA, ECDIS, DP Unlimited, TWIC, valid DL, US Passport.
• Dynamic Positioning Officer
• IMO regulations require the officer be fluent in English.
• Experience with latest generation Offshore Supply Vessels (OSV's) is required.
Work Environment/Job Conditions:
This job is performed onboard vessels. Activities and responsibilities require lifting of heavy equipment, ascending and descending stairs, working below decks with technical equipment, and performing emergency duties as required. This is not intended to be an exhaustive list of required abilities.
